Agriculture

My father, Agripino Ramirez Vasquez was born on June 22, 1946. He grew up in a ranch located in San Juan De Los Lagos, Jalisco, Mexico. As a young child he started working on the fields with the help of his 17 brothers and sisters. Him and his siblings were working to support the family and always cooperating together. It was really tough in those times because it was long hours in the hot sun with very poor materials and equipment compared to the improvement of modern machinery and technology that is invented now. They would run establishments that produce crops, livestock, dairy products, and take care of the animals they owned.

My dad was a very hardworking, punctual, strong man and would do a lot of manual labor himself. He would plant corn, potatoes, beans, yams, and other types of vegetables and other fruits. He was very responsible and always made sure they were alive. He would always keep track of the environment and have it in good condition. Sometimes it would be harsh due to the climate changes during the seasons. “Cropping systems vary among farms depending on the available resources and constraints; geography and climate of the farm; government policy; economic, social and political pressures; and the philosophy and culture of the farmer.”

My dad’s duty was also to take care of all the farm animals such as horses, pigs, ducks, sheep, chicken, cows, bees, fish, goats and many more. He would use these animals mostly for food and business. He would milk cows and also make cheese out of them. He would shave off the sheep’s fur and use it to make warm clothes. He would take care of the chickens and wait for them to hatch eggs. Then, later kill the chickens and roast them to eat for dinner and as well with the eggs. Bees were used for the honey. He would gather up jars and fill them up with honey to sell them and make money. He would go fishing for fishes to eat. The goats would provide good milk and cheese. Pigs were usually meant to be killed and eat their meat. “Farm animals are animals that are kept for agricultural purposes. This includes such domesticated animals as cows and chickens, and wild animals that are raised in confinement, including mink and fish. Animals are farmed for a variety of reasons. Most were raised to be killed. Meat from cattle, hogs, and chickens provides the bulk of protein.”

I’m very inspired by my father and his life because it showed me to give more value to my life and never give up. He grew up in a poorly environment and doing harsh labor work. I admire him because he failed many times but he never lost hope and always tried his best. My father influences me to stay positive in hard times, give it your all, and always be a go getter. My one and only hero, Agripino Ramirez Vasquez. I love you papi.
