Attitudes and Behaviors Toward the CST 2

The CST
The California standards test (cst) is a test we must take after every school year from Second to Eleventh Grade. This test is a multiple-choice test with one essay to be written at the end. This test is taken to determine how much you have improved in the school year and then they determine if you are smart or not.

The problem with this test is that it’s developed by California educators and test developers specifically for California. They believe that were supposed to pass a test written by genius and they expect students to pass with a proficient or advanced score. This test is not taken serious by some students because it’s a boring test. The test has so many questions that students get tired of reading and answering questions. Each day you test on a different subject like English, Math, Science, and History.

I think that students don’t really care about this test because you score good or bad you move onto the next grade. If the test had more consequences like if they didn’t pass they will repeat that grade then students would actually try harder and pass.

The test takes a week to complete and students after a week get tired of sitting their butts down on a chair for three hours. If the test was really important to school then they would offer classes were students could come and see the test released questions so that way students wouldn’t be as lost as when they see the questions. I believe that when we get the test we blank out because the first questions are about what we learned from the beginning of the school year and then from what we learned recently.
The worst part of the test is the English part because we got to read like 20 essays and answer like Five questions and then answer like 30 multiple choice questions and write a essay on a topic chosen by the test in like 20-30 min. the teachers hurry us up and tell us that if we don’t finish the test that we wont be able to finish. This is all a lie after the test if not done then students may take more time to finish.
The math part of the test also has the hardest question at the end you have to solve a problem probably written by Albert Einstein. First we solve the general questions and then we get into a little bit harder questions and at the end then we get the hardest questions. To finish the test we must answer a word problem that is the most difficult one of test.
The test is really dumb and I believe this test is just taken to put us down. The test should be taken in middle school and not high school and that way students get over the test and worry more important stuff then studying for the year-end test. I believe the state has control of schools and that way teachers don’t teach us what they know because they must follow rules.

  1. It was interesting the hear a students point of view about the CST's. It is obvious that some students feel the test is pointless and too difficult and your suggestions were helpful. However, if teachers do not write the test who do you propose create the exam? In order to be more effective, try and give some examples of questions and do not forget to state your position in your thesis. Also, organize your essay into longer paragraphs that have sentences that flow with one another. For example, focus one paragraph on the questions and difficulty and another on the consequences of failing the CST.
