My Attitude Toward CST Testing

CST testing is the most important test we can take because it is one of the requirements that we are suppose to pass before we graduate. But is it really that important?
The CST tests are way too long and during that whole time we only get two minutes to stretch and drink a tiny box of expired, stale juice. I’m sure that during that time students get hungry, but teachers like my homeroom teacher Ms. Chavez, don’t allow students to eat in her class. As a result of the teacher not letting us eat we can’t think and we get distracted causing us to lose concentration. This leads to us guessing on the test just so that we can finish faster.
When students finish early on the test they still have nothing to do other than stare at the wall or fall asleep. We are not allowed to use electronics when we are done because the teachers think we are going to be cheating but they can just collect them than making us suffer from boredom.
While taking the test our homeroom teacher would tell us how much time we have left but this test isn’t based on time or who finishes quicker. We are supposed to take our time because the test is based on how much knowledge we have so we are supposed to try our best to get as many answers as we can correctly but since we are rushed some students might try to rush through it. When I took the CST last semester I felt rushed by the teacher because she kept repeating the time we had left and she would tell us to hurry up a little because time is running out.
This test is useless and we don’t need it to judge us and divide people by their knowledge. It can lower a students self esteem and make them feel less than their peers. It's not like all the students try to pass, they just want to be over with testing.

  1. You made some good points about the CST and I found your experiences with your teachers helpful in understanding why students don't take the test seriously. One suggestion I have for this essay is to include more examples of how you would change things and what teachers can do to help students focus.
